Marge Facer - Total Joint Replacement
As a volunteer at Ottawa Regional, every day I see patients who have benefited from the care they received at the hospital. So, when I needed surgery, it was an obvious choice. I went to Ottawa Regional.For years, Marge Facer has looked to Ottawa Regional Hospital & Healthcare Center for her healthcare needs. For minor healthcare issues or major surgeries, Marge knew she could count on getting top quality treatment right in her hometown.
"As a volunteer at Ottawa Regional, every day I see patients who have benefited from the care they received at the hospital," says Marge. "So, when I needed surgery, it was an obvious choice. I went to Ottawa Regional. Over the years I have had a number of surgeries at this hospital. The doctors, nurses, and staff are super because they know how to get to the root of the problem and I am always treated like a queen. So, when the pain in my knees started to interfere with my dancing and aerobic classes, I knew it was time to do something."
In the past decade, Marge has actively participated in tap, jazz, and ballet along with her aerobic classes. Everyday use and arthritis weakened her knees, and Marge had her first total knee replacement on her right knee in the summer of 2006. Eventually, it was time to take care of the other knee, so Marge had her second total joint replacement 18 months later. "It's about the quality of my life. I needed to get around, pain free!," says Marge. Once again, she turned to Eric Ortinau, M.D., Board Certified Orthopedic Surgeon at Ottawa Regional.
"Marge did her homework, and she knew first hand the benefits of a total knee replacement. There is no upper age limit for joint replacement candidates and for someone like Marge, this type of surgery is a minor discomfort compared to the excruciating pain from arthritis she was experiencing. Rehabilitation begins immediately, with patients up and taking a few steps 3-4 hours after surgery. I saw Marge several times in the months following her surgery. Her recovery went wonderfully, due in part to her positive attitude and preparedness."
